One step closer to Anonymous Marking

The Students’ Union works closely with the University to ensure that your assessments are marked fairly. Our ultimate aim is to ensure that, where possible, assessments are marked without the marker knowing whose work they are assessing.

Recently we have taken a step closer to achieving this aim. From now on, any electronically submitted work, via moodle, will not include students’ names and the piece of work will only be identifiable by a student ID number. This will make it harder for the marker to show bias when marking.

You will need to ensure that your name is not contained within the cover sheet, or within the assignment, including within the document data but you must ensure you include your student ID number within the header of the document.

A guide to what to do before students submit their work can be found here

Most written exams currently use this way of obscuring student identities, however not all assessments will be able to be obscured or anonymous. For example, practical assessments, such as drama performances and nursing practical exams, when the marker will be face-to-face with you.
