Candidates that we're looking for

We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting our students to achieve, challenging the status quo, enhancing our Advice Service, and ensuring that our students get the most out of their higher education experience. You'll have the ability to juggle giving face to face advice, managing an advice service and supporting the delivery of welfare campaigns and activity. This opportunity would be a great stepping-stone for someone wanting to prove they are ready to take on a diverse management role in a students' union.

Core accountabilities

  1. To lead our work in ‘supporting students’ through the development of proactive and reactive programmes of activity, campaigns, policy development and advocacy, both within the Students’ Union, University and the wider sector, to best meet the needs of our membership.

  2. To work with all elected representatives where appropriate, but in particular, the Vice President: Welfare & Equalities and the Liberation Officers to coach them to progress their work, campaigns and development whilst in post.

  3. To oversee and manage a confidential and impartial academic advice service, giving information and support to students, and where appropriate volunteers, elected representatives and Union/University staff.

London South Bank Students’ Union is a small Union doing BIG things - following considerable new investment in our staff team we’re looking to recruit a number of additional roles now.

We're proud as a staff team to have taken a failing Union 5 years ago, and turned it into an emergent leader, but we're nowhere near done yet, and getting a stronger student voice on campus is of the highest importance to us.

More about the team you'll be working in

As a Union we've developed a strong, well connected and informed student advice service. We deliver both advice and support to individual clients; we use our client cases to build arguments for systemic changes to university policies and approaches; and, we offer expert insight to university partners, both in the review and formulation of new policies and proceedures. Our new strategy puts a focus on supporting our member

This post will operationally manage the Student Support Team, as well as being a crucial part of the departmental management structure comprised of the Head of Education & Students Experience, a Student Voice Manager and two Activities Managers leading on the strategic delivery of the deparment.
