Charities of the Year

LSBSU RAG (Raising and Giving) had you, the students of South Bank, to decide 3 core charities we should support this academic year. The 3 selected charities will share RAG’s fundraising profits over the next academic year from when they are chosen at Freshers. Although our fundraising is split between our student-elected charities, we do raise money for other charities by facilitating events through sports and societies. If you would like to raise money for a charity which is not a core charity please email RAG.Chair@lsbsu.org

INTERNATIONAL CHARITY

Childreach International works at the grassroots level, providing access to education and healthcare to children by empowering local communities. They currently have projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the UK, led by local staff and volunteers in country.

They do this by working with volunteers across the UK who fundraise and take part in Childreach Challenges. This year we are taking on the Inca Trail in Peru.

You can find out more about Childreach International on their website.

NATIONAL CHARITY

Newlife nurses support families, their researchers work to improve children’s health, their dedicated team campaign for a fairer deal. 100% of every penny donated or fundraised will be used for equipment to change a child’s life. There are now around one million disabled and terminally ill children in the UK. Thousands of them rely on Newlife to get the equipment they need, equipment that has often been refused by the statutory services or the delays in provision mean that the child will suffer unnecessarily.

Find out more about Newlife and their work with disabled children by visiting their website.

LOCAL CHARITY

Pecan is a community development charity based in Peckham. Working with South East London communities to help people find a way through seemingly impassable barriers to a better future. In 25 years, 27,000 clients flourish through programs including: ex-offenders and their families, refugees and asylum seekers, young people and the long-term unemployed. Pecan, see their service users as people who need supporting – not problems which need solving.

Find out more about Pecan by visiting their website.
