RAG Project of the Year 

This award goes to the Raising and Giving project, a series of activities, that either engaged the most students, had the most impact or raised the most amount money for the nominated charity. You can nominate any project run by a single student or student group, a RAG team, a Sport or Society or through a University department.

 

Event of the Year 

This award goes to the LSBU student led event that engaged students the most and had the greatest impact. This award is open to events that occur on and off of campus. You can nominate any event run by a single student or student group, a RAG team, a Sport or a Society.

 

Volunteer of the Year

This award is given to an individual student who has given above and beyond expectations over the previous academic year. The winner’s qualities will include their commitment, enthusiasm and positivity, promoting volunteering and logging numerous volunteering hours. This award is open to students independently as a volunteer or as part of student activity group e.g club committee member, Forum Chair etc.

 

New Society of the Year

Awarded to a best new Society created during the previous academic year who have been successful in attracting members, running events and meetings, and engaging the student body. The award can be given to any category of Society, from Course-Led to General Interest.

 

Most Improved Society

Is a society that has existed for over a year and has evidence of improvements in performance in comparison to the previous academic year. This does not necessarily have to be in terms of size instead the focus is on development. Criteria includes:

  • An attempt to increase membership numbers

  • Evidence of organising more society activities (e.g. social, fundraising, educational) than of the previous year.

  • Increasing digital presence on the LSBSU webpage and social media

  • New attempts to collaborate with other student groups e.g. Sports, Societies, RAG.

Contribution to Societies

A special award given to an individual to recognise their contribution to the development of Societies at LSBSU. This is a person who is involved in a society, belongs to and is proactive in committees or multiple committees, in order to enhance the student experience.

 

Society of The Year

Society of the year is awarded based on the following criteria also listed in the ARTs. This award is to specifically encourage active committees and members to work towards developing their club throughout the year.

  • Retention and possibly an increase in membership numbers compared to the previous academic year.

  • Evidence of working with a wider community beyond just current members e.g. other societies, sports teams, and the local community.

  • Successful completion of a detailed, relevant and realistic Development Plan.

  • Undertaking a RAG activity to fundraise for either their club or a chosen charity.

  • Evidence of commitment through attending Societies Forums and logging volunteer hours.

  • Effective promotion of the society via attendance at Freshers & Refreshers Fair, an updated LSBSU web page and active social media channels.

  • Contribution to Students’ Union/ University campaigns e.g. Black History Month, LGBT History Month, This Girl Can etc.

 

SPORTS AWARDS

 

University Full Colours

Awarded to individuals for excellence in sport or an outstanding contribution to their teams and LSBU Sport as a whole. This award is only available to final year students who have demonstrated performance and dedication consistently over a number of years throughout their time at LSBU and is the highest level of award available to Sports Club members.

 

University Half Colours

Awarded to individuals for their performance while representing the University and for their commitment and dedication to a Sports Club.

 

Contribution to Sport

A special award given to an individual to recognise their contribution to the development of Sports at LSBSU. This is a person who is involved in a sport, belongs to and is proactive in committees or multiple committees, in order to enhance the student experience.

 

University Crest

This is an award presented to the person who has contributed to LSBU Sport in ways other than sporting excellence. For example:

  • An outstanding contribution towards sport, their club(s) and the Sports Federation.

  • A commitment to developing themselves and others through morale and coaching.

  • A commitment to enhancing the student experience for their members.

  • Working towards encouraging sporting participation within their peers.

 

Sports Ambassador of the Year

The Sports Ambassador of the Year Award is given to the sport ambassador that has excelled in a variety of areas. It is judged on the following factors and is always a very hard decision as we have so many outstanding ambassadors.

  • Successful Completion of their Work Plan Objectives

  • The Overall Quality of their Work (Technical Ability | Application to duties |  Willingness to Take Initiative | Acceptance of his/her Responsibilities | Judgment and Common Sense | Relations with Colleagues Management of Resources | Timekeeping | Attendance |Communication)

  • Number of hours completed on the scheme

  • Customer Comments/Feedback


Elite Athlete of the Year

The Elite Sports Programme is run by the Academy to support talented sportsmen and women balance their sporting, academic and personal lives. This award takes into account a variety of attributes including sporting prowess, professionalism, notoriety, and impact to the student sport programme.

 

Coach Recognition Award

Awarded to the coach who has led or assisted their club to a successful year whether on a performance basis or in development opportunities they have introduced. The award can be presented to students who may be coaching the club due to a lack of official coaches.

 

Sportswoman of the Year

Awarded to the most successful individual female sportsperson of each season based upon performance.

 

Sportsman of the Year

Awarded to the most successful individual male sportsperson of each season based upon performance

 

Sports Team of the Year

The most successful team of each season will be recognised on an annual basis. This is normally the team finishing in the highest BUCS league position or the team that has moved up the most BUCS league positions in the past academic year. If a team does not compete in BUCS then a comparable competition may apply. Please note this must be a specific team as opposed to a club i.e. Women’s Football 2nd Team.

 

Sports Club of The Year

Awarded to a recreational and competitive club under the following criteria also listed in the ARTs. This award is to specifically encourage active committees and members to work towards developing their club throughout the year.

  • Retention and possibly an increase in membership numbers compared to the previous academic year.

  • Evidence of working with a wider community beyond just current members e.g. other sports teams, societies and the local community.

  • Successful completion of a detailed, relevant and realistic Development Plan.
