WOMENS CAMPAIGN

As of 6 April 2007, there is a requirment for all public sector bodies to promote and ensure gender equality within all their functions. Known as the Gender Equality Duty, it is a legally binding requirment of all public educational institutions.

This means that all public bodies (such as London South Bank University) are required to promote gender equality, and to act out against any unlawful instances of discrimination and sexual harassment.

It is now time for the university to take a positive step forward and to ensure that the Gender Equality Duty is adhered to, and to uphold the policies that it defines. This is the biggest change to the Sexual Discrimination Act since 1975, and it is up to us as Union members to ensure that the University sticks to these policies, and represents women on campus in a fair and just manner.

This is an incredibly important campaign, and one in which every student, male and female, should be actively participating in.
